Its Day 50 of Enhanced Community Quarantine here in the Philippines and I was hoping this pandemic will end soon. Since our plans were post-pone because of this pandemic, why not we travel on our own homes? I'm sharing with you my top 3 favorite places here in Manila, Philippines. Let's Explore!
Top 3 – National Museums of the Philippines
There are four (4) National Museums in the Philippines: National Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of Anthropology, and Planetarium. All four have different characteristics and vibes! And all of them are FREE ENTRANCES!!
First, you will see different paintings and portraits of the national artists in the Philippines inside the National Museum of Fine Arts. Upon entrance to this museum, you'll see the Spolarium, a painting by Juan Luna that won a gold medal in Madrid. I love to see each painting in this museum because it gives me this vibe that I can't explain where my heart is full of joy, and I like the story and history of each painting. If you're into art try to visit this museum!
Second, the National Museum of Natural History is all about the science and geographical nature of the Philippines. DNA Double Helix elevator was placed at the entrance of this museum because it represents the life of all living things. Also, you'll find here the bones of the world's largest crocodile in captivity, Lolong, he was a saltwater crocodile measured at 6.17 m and weighed 1,075 kg. Volcanoes and Earthquakes room is my favorite place here because I like rocks! And I enjoy earth science. If you're into science try to visit this museum!
Third, the National Museum of Anthropology is the home of Ethnological and Archaeological exhibitions. You'll find here the gallery of The San Diego: 500 years of Maritime Trade. It displays the different vessels that found underwater by treasure hunters, explorers, and archaeologists. This gallery is also my favorite because it shows the first history of the Philippines, which is trading. There are many galleries inside this museum so if you're into archaeological artifacts try to visit this museum!
Lastly, the Planetarium, this museum shows different information about astronomy. You'll see here a visual representation of our solar system, stars and constellations, and a small theatre. The theatre has an entrance fee of 50php for adults, 40php for senior citizens and PWD, and 30php for students. We watched Hayabusa: Back to the Earth, It was a short film about the journey of a robotic spacecraft named Hayabusa. There are many things to see in this museum, and if you're into astronomy try to visit this museum!
Top 2 – Intramuros, Manila (The Walled City)
Intramuros is a Latin word for "within the walls", this city was built in the late 16th century to protect the city from foreign invasions. Intramuros is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines because of its beauty and history. One of the historical places you'll find inside the walled city is Fort Santiago, where Dr. Jose Rizal was detained before his death in Luneta Park. Intramuros is my 2nd favorite place in Manila because there are so many things to do here like museum hopping, biking (using bamboo bikes), and try different Filipino dishes at low costs. Try to visit Intramuros, Manila, and see the beauty within the walls!
Top 1 – Escolta (Queen Street of Manila)
Yey! We arrive at the top place to visit in Manila.
Escolta is a street located at Sta. Cruz, Manila, this street is formerly known as The Queen Street of Manila because it's the center of commerce in the city in the late 19th century. The first ice cream parlor and the first shopping center were established here before. However, WWII has arrived and this street has been affected by the battle, since then, the busy street of Escolta turns into a lifeless place. However, in today's time, there are Non-Government Organizations that help the Escolta to bloom again.
Escolta is the home of finest neo-classical architectures here in Manila; one of the famous buildings you'll see here is The Twin Building of Escolta: the Regina and the First United Building, It's located at the entrance of the street. There are so many things to do in this street! Like trying out different flavors of ice cream in the retro ice cream parlor, attend art fests, and check-out the museum in Calvo building! Include this lovely place in your bucket list!
All the places have their story and history, while we visit them we should try to open our eyes and see its beauty and uniqueness. Happy Traveling!
